Heritage & Identity Celebrations
Aligned with our values of equity, service, and curiosity, Kitsap Regional Library proudly celebrates a range of heritage months throughout the year. Our goal is to honor and reflect the unique makeup of our community—with a focus on recognizing historically marginalized communities—and demonstrate that we are open to all.
Heritage Months We Focus On
- Black History Month
- Women’s History Month
- Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Heritage Month
- LGBTQIA+ Pride Month
- Disability Pride Month
- National Hispanic Heritage Month
- Native American Heritage Month
Why We Focus on These
These celebrations are opportunities for all community members to learn about the traditions, histories, and contributions of marginalized groups who have overcome oppression to create opportunities for all. They help raise awareness, foster cross-cultural learning, and build a more inclusive community. Each celebration demonstrates our commitment to equity and diversity within Kitsap County. By highlighting these stories, we aim to inspire a deeper understanding and appreciation of our shared experiences.
How We Highlight These
For each heritage month, we create a variety of celebratory and informational materials such as booklists, bookmarks, displays, and stickers. These resources highlight areas of our collection available year-round that showcase a rich diversity of voices and perspectives. Engagement with these materials is optional, and our commitment to providing a diverse collection—representing viewpoints for all ages, backgrounds, and opinions—remains central to our mission.
