Adventure novels are action-packed mission or quest-based stories of daring deeds achieved. They span many genres. Whether fantasy or science fiction, historical or contemporary, set in teeming cities or primeval forests, they’re full of risk and excitement.
Perhaps not surprisingly, given our proximity to the sea, Kitsap Regional Library patrons are often looking for books that feature adventures set on, in, or near the ocean depths. If you’re interested in discovering watery tales of adventure here are some suggestions, tips, and tricks to try.

- Pair these keywords with ‘adventure’ in your catalog search: action, ‘ship captains,’ ‘sea fiction,’ ‘sea stories,’ ‘pirates fiction,’ ‘naval history,’ and ‘seafaring life.’ Then, filter your results by content, for example, 'fiction.'
- Check out the community and staff lists on the library’s catalog that also include books you liked.
- Explore Novelist Plus for more suggestions. Search using similar keywords as your library catalog search (these terms can also be used in a search engine such as Google, your results will vary.)
- Use the BookMatch or Book-a-Librarian services to get individualized help, for reading suggestions or tutorials on navigating the library catalog.
